Dolphins around the dinghy

Moments from sea

You can never know what a day on the Anne-Margaretha will have install for you. This morning I really had to muster up some courage as I hauled myself out of bed at 4 am to pull the sails down. My night watch ended at midnight and by the time we were anchored I was back on watch. Its now 3.30 pm in the afternoon and I’ve just had one of the most special moments of my life. This morning we made land after 10 days straight at sea crossing the Atlantic. That alone is pretty sensational, but it’s not what has me grinning from ear to ear. Not an hour ago I found myself on anchor watch starring out to the island when a pod of dolphins surfaces next to the boat. With Heinz as my accomplice it was moments before I had my snorkel, we launched the dingy and I was in the water with them. I almost forgot to breath as a mother and calf glided in circles around me.

‚What is this strange creature?  Is it drowning?‘

She let my hand brush against her tail, still turning in circles. Finally curiosity filled they turned and disappeared into the blue. Further on a pod of 10 or more appeared around the dingy. I plopped into the water next to them. After a few curious turns they surfaced and silently spiralled down below me into the deep.

One very special moment and one very happy girl!
